Overview of Islamic Eschatology on the Mahdi and Jesus' Roles

Analyzing the claims of the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light in light of mainstream Islamic teachings, it is essential to examine their validity according to the Quran, Hadith, and scholarly works. This analysis aims to highlight the discrepancies between Ahmadi beliefs and orthodox Islamic doctrines.

The Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light is a religious movement that emerged from the Ahmadiyya community but has distinct beliefs and leadership. Central to their claims is the belief in a continued line of prophets after Prophet Muhammad, which contradicts the mainstream Islamic belief in the finality of prophethood. They also identify their founder or current leader as the promised Mahdi and Messiah, roles traditionally reserved for specific figures in Islamic eschatology. Their interpretations of end-time events differ from orthodox interpretations, including the roles of the Mahdi and Jesus.

Mainstream Islamic Teachings on the Finality of Prophethood

مُحَمًدًا مَا كَانَ أَبَائِكُمُ مُنِ رَجُلاً وَلَكَنَ رَسُولًا لَكُمُ وَخِاتَّمًا النُبُيَنُ

"Muhammad is not the father of any one of your men, but he is the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets."

📔 Surah Al-Ahzab (33:40)

This verse is interpreted by mainstream scholars to mean that Prophet Muhammad is the last prophet. In Hadith literature, Prophet Muhammad said:

قَد أَنَّ الرَسُلَ وَالنُبَّيِين قَد انقَعِقَت ولا نُبَّيِ ولا رَسُلً بعدِي

"The chain of Messengers and Prophets has come to an end. There shall be no Messenger nor Prophet after me."

📔 Sahih al-Bukhari

The concept of the finality of prophethood (Khatam an-Nubuwwah) is a fundamental tenet in Islam, agreed upon by Sunni and Shia scholars alike. Imam Al-Nawawi stated that any claim to prophethood after Muhammad is false and heretical.

The Roles of the Mahdi and Jesus

Regarding the Mahdi and Jesus, the Mahdi is expected to be a righteous leader from the lineage of Prophet Muhammad, specifically from the descendants of Fatimah, his daughter. A Hadith from Sunan Abi Dawood states:

المهدَي من عترَتِى دَته طوَيلة وأنف الأرطان وَيملأدنا الأرطال

"The Mahdi is of my lineage, with a broad forehead and a pointed nose. He will fill the earth with justice as it was filled with oppression."

📔 Sunan Abi Dawood

There is no indication in authentic Hadith that the Mahdi would be a new prophet or that he has already appeared. As for Jesus (??s?), he is believed to descend from heaven before the Day of Judgment. In Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, the Prophet said:

وَاللهُ تنُزِيلَّنَ عِنَّكِم الاللهُ صلىَب نُفسكُمُ مرنة إلِيكُمُ

"By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, son of Mary (Jesus) will shortly descend among you as a just ruler."

📔 Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim

Jesus's role is to kill the Dajjal, abolish certain corrupt practices, and affirm the true message of monotheism. The Ahmadi belief in ongoing prophethood contradicts these teachings, which emphasize the finality of prophethood and specific descriptions of the Mahdi and Jesus.
